The Employment and Training Coordinator’s position holds two primary responsibilities. The first responsibility is to manage the daily human resources of the Native Council and provide employment assistance to the community. The second responsibility it to manage the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) program. ASETS links training to labour market demands and ensures that Canada’s Aboriginal people can fully participate in economic opportunities.

Responsibilities: 

EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate and oversee the recruiting and hiring of new NCPEI team members
  • Provide orientation training to new team members
  • Oversee the transition period to the end of a program and help support the “exit” strategy
  • Maintain personnel files and ensure all documentation is up to date
  • Assist supervisors in the annual planning and monitoring of team members evaluations
  • Handle all records and facilitate: performance reviews, grievances, and disciplinary actions taken by supervisors
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and training sessions
  • Seek out and develop new partnerships for work placements and participate in relevant committees on behalf of NCPEI
  • Seek out and liaise with businesses and industry leaders on current and upcoming employment opportunities

ASETS PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
  • Assist clients with career action plans
  • Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with job readiness
  • Monthly check-in/ follow up with all ASETS clients and provide further intervention when needed
  • Ensure that the ASETS committee has all relevant information pertaining to client’s needs and amount requested
  • Assist with measures such as: life skills, resume/cover letter, job search skills
  • Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, skill requirements and other necessary information
  • Monitor the program budget
  • Maintain confidential records and statistics on regional community employment
  • Prepare monthly program report for funder
  • Prepare yearly and quarterly reports for NCPEI’s Board of Directors
  • Attend career fairs and educational institution open houses to promote NCPEI ASETS program and career opportunities
  • Maintain the ARMS case management system with client assessments, interventions, and other case related information
  • Respond to request for input/information from the President and Chief
