MP Sean Casey - TRC Commemorative Pins

The Mi'kmaq historically has a matriarchal society.  This means that the woman's voice was and is heard very clearly when important decisions were being made.  This, again, is attributable to their role as life-giver; when decisions that affect the future of the people being made, the ones who gave birth to those people should have the controlling input to the dicision.

August 2nd, MP Sean Casey held a social event where nominated community members were awarded with custom designed pins to honour those who embody the reconciliation of Aboriginal peoples.  Those nominated were:

NCPEI President & Chief, Lisa Cooper (award accepted on her behalf by Nancy MacLean)

AWA President, Dr. Judy Clark

Sharon O'Brien

Dawne Knockwood

Corrine Chappel
