Cultural Connections Youth Program
The Native Council currently operates the Cultural Connections Youth program with funding from the Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centers Initiative. We receive new Aboriginal and Non- Aboriginal youth monthly and our participation numbers for every event continue to grow.
Each month, our elected Youth Council Members and interested youth come together to discuss the success of previous activities, brainstorm for upcoming events and raise concerns or issues. Youth members then have the opportunity to resolve concerns and issues, help plan upcoming activities, and take an active role in the organization of each event. By consensus, activities are selected from the UMAYC work plan and duties are then assigned. A monthly newsletter, The Native Youth Link, is created and emailed to an expanding list of youth, community members, community groups, and government officials.
A typical month includes weekly Drum Group Meetings and 2-3 other activities or workshops. Drum Group meetings take place every Thursday evening from 6-8pm and allow for our young male drum group, The Eagle Island Singers, to practice and learn new songs. The girls take this opportunity to do crafts, traditional dancing, or make new regalias for the Pow Wow season. We also take this weekly time to schedule workshops, bring in guest speakers, and do recreational activities with the youth to keep all members active and interested.
Our Youth Board of Director now has a vote at the Board level which is an important avenue for voicing our concerns. With the Native Youth Council structure in place we are able to keep in close contact with each other to ensure a solid foundation, one, which can only grow stronger.
Please contact me If you would like more information or would like to attend a youth meeting or have an idea for a fun activity - I would love to hear from you!

Youth Sponsorship
The NCPEI recognizes that there are many worthwhile causes which support the educational and social goals of the NCPEI that occur outside of the NCPEI youth programming. It further recognizes that there are financial costs associated with these activities which often place increased demands on youth and their families. While the NCPEI is unable to financially support all of the requests it receives, it will endeavor to provide a level of financial assistance for identified activities and events.
Please see Youth Sponsorship Policy if you would like to apply.
Youth Scholarship
The Native Council of PEI is offering two educational scholarships as a means to encourage and promote the attainment of higher educational goals for individuals who have demonstrated a positive commitment to helping in their community. The award is to recognize and support individuals who have made a positive contribution to their school and/or the NCPEI community.
Please check back as we will be posting an application form soon!
