Tapui’tjitja’amitj (2-Spirit)
The Tapui’tjitja’amitj (2-Spirit) Program has been developed to strengthen the connection to, and inclusion of 2SLGBTQQIA+ (2S+) peoples living off-reserve on Prince Edward Island through the development and delivery of community-based, culturally appropriate supports and outreach activities.
The program focuses on promoting positive mental well-being, increase understanding of issues and, ultimately, reduce gender-based violence within and directed toward the 2S+ community.
Activities include monthly group meetings with cultural teachings and presentations, quarterly land-based teachings/healing circles/talking circles based on participant needs and provided by Elders, public and community outreach and education sessions highlighting the historic role of 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples in Indigenous culture and current issues as well as cultural retreats.
